The earliest manned spaceflight was by Cosmonaut Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin (USSR) in Vostok 1 on April 12, 1961. Vostok 1 was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan, USSR, at 9:07 am and landed near Smelovka, USSR, 115 minutes later.Gagarin ejected from Vostok 1 108 Minutes into the flight as planned, and landed three minutes after his spacecraft by parachute. The maximum altitude during Vostok 1’s 25,394-mile (40,868-km) flight was listed at 203 miles (327 km), with a maximum speed of 17,560 mph (28,260 km/h).
