Planning Hair And Makeup Before Prom Night
If you would like to have your hair styled and make up done in a special way for prom, here are a few things to consider.
Next to homecoming, special awards and high school graduation, prom is one of the most important evenings a girl will have in high school. She’ll begin dreaming about it long before the big night arrives. Many little girls imagine what they’ll wear to prom; what their dress will be like, how their hair will be done and what their make up will look like. Hearing the story of Cinderella is a little girl’s first experience with this type of event and most girls imagine that the evening will be magical and just might end with a kiss from a handsome prince charming in a rented tux.
In order to plan for her special night, high school girls will search tirelessly for the perfect gown with shoes to match, and they may even encourage their date to find matching accessories for the tuxedo. But once the gown has been found, that part is over and it won’t be put on until the big night. Hair and make up, however, are another story. They obviously can’t be done until the day of prom, and often, not until the late afternoon, if prom falls on a work or school night.
If you have been invited to the prom and would like to have your hair styled and make up done in a special way, here are a few things to consider.
1. Professional Do. If you plan to go to a salon to have your hair styled professionally, it is critical that you plan ahead. Many other girls will be doing the same thing and time slots fill quickly; plus, often several schools will plan their prom on the same evening, which makes the competition to get a spot at the local salon quite fierce. Once you have your allotted time reserved, decide how you want your hair done. Collect pictures and photos from magazines and bring them to your hairstylist. Choose something that looks elegant, but that suits you and works with your gown. You want to look pretty, but you also want to be comfortable enough to dance and enjoy the evening.
2. Professional Make up. Again, plan ahead. This can be a bit more tedious because make up is such a personal preference. If you do know how you want your make up done but would like to have it applied professionally, by all means, schedule a time, but be very clear about what you want and be sure to reserve your time well in advance.
3. Nails. Many girls like to have a professional manicure or even have acrylic nails applied for prom. As with hair and make up, the time needs to be reserved well in advance, but often nails can be done a day or two before prom so you won’t have such a time crunch on the big day.
4. Consider the cost. In reality, all these things can be done at home. Often a pair or a group of friends will get together before prom and do their hair and make up together, helping one another. Not only can this be a fun way to get ready, it will also save you a bundle of money. Professional hair styling, make up and nails can cost up into the hundreds. If you do plan to do the work yourself or with friends, be sure to practice. Don’t wait until the afternoon before prom to start trying a new hair style on your own. If it doesn’t work or look quite the way you want it, you won’t have time to start over. Begin practicing on weekends and during free time, a few weeks in advance. By the time prom night arrives, you’ll be an expert at styling your own hair and doing your own make up!
